Captain, Lovey, Stinky, Bitey, Loudy and Nimrod...
The previews for this movie looked really, really good. Our 3 children were interested in watching it, but in the end, it was our 10 year old son who joined me for the viewing.
Normally, before seeing a movie, I am the careful Mom who checks the reviews and finds out why this movie is rated what it is. Did I check this time? No. Do I wish I had? Yes!
We are a clean movie watching family. Some may say we are a bit over the top...but that is us! We don't allow our children to watch any movies with swearing of any sort, and we try to stay away from crude humor and disrespectful behavior. When it comes right down to it, we are just looking for good family friendly movies.
Mr. Popper grows up with a dysfunctional relationship with his father, his dad is always on the road and is never home. Fast forward 30 some years, and as you can imagine, Popper does not have a great relationship with his own kids, whom he only gets to see every other weekend.
Throughout the movie, there is much language used (10+ instances) that would not fall under our "family friendly" viewing category. Add to that disrespectful behavior, and this movie does not get my thumbs up vote for family friendly.
My best piece of advice? If you're going to the theater to see this movie, get a babysitter and leave the children at home!
(Rated PG for Mild Rude Humor and Some Language)
Star Rating: 2 for family friendly
