My Stubborn Heart - Becky Wade

Book Info...

Kate Donovan is burned out on work, worn down by her dating relationships, and in need of an adventure. When her grandmother asks her to accompany her to Redbud, Pennsylvania, to restore the grand old house she grew up in, Kate jumps at the chance.

Upon her arrival in Redbud, Kate meets Matt Jarreau, the man hired to renovate the house. Kate can't help being attracted to him, drawn by both his good looks and something else she can't quite put her finger on. He's clearly wounded--hiding from people, from God, and from his past. Yet Kate sets her stubborn heart on bringing him out of the dark and back into the light... whether he likes it or not.

When the stilted, uncomfortable interactions between Kate and Matt slowly shift into something more, is God finally answering the longing of her heart? Or will Kate be required to give up more than she ever dreamed?

My thoughts...

Becky Wade did an outstanding job with her debut book!  Never knowing what to expect when I come across a new author, Wade delivered everything I have come to enjoy and expect through Christian Fiction!

There were so many characters I grew to love throughout this story.  I think the most unique one to watch out for is Morty, one of the "seniors" in this story.  His interaction with Kate and the trials they go through, all for the name of Velma, leaves a hope for the future.  He proves that you can teach an old dog new tricks!

The relationship between Kate and Matt, the main characters, are somewhat typical of romance novels.  There seems to be an attraction, a problem occurs, and then you read the rest of the book to see if they will work it out.  While that may be the case with this story, there is so much more going on with the supporting characters that you find yourself caught up in their stories as well, not just biding your time to see whether Kate and Matt get together.

Now I have to admit, another draw to this book was the fact that Kate is an Antiques Roadshow fan, as am I! While I am not in to antiquing, or collecting the sort, I do have a fascination with the TV show! I loved reading of Kate's antique knowledge and interest in the subject.

If your looking for a great book by a new author, I highly suggest you purchase this book!  You won't be disappointed!  I give this book 5 Stars and look forward to Wade's next novel!

**I received this book from Bethany House Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion.**
