About the book (from Amazon)...

From New York Times bestselling author Kristina McMorris comes another unforgettable novel inspired by a stunning piece of history.
2 CHILDREN FOR SALE
The sign is a last resort. It sits on a farmhouse porch in 1931, but could be found anywhere in an era of breadlines, bank runs and broken dreams. It could have been written by any mother facing impossible choices.
For struggling reporter Ellis Reed, the gut-wrenching scene evokes memories of his family’s dark past. He snaps a photograph of the children, not meant for publication. But when it leads to his big break, the consequences are more devastating than he ever imagined.
At the paper, Lillian Palmer is haunted by her role in all that happened. She is far too familiar with the heartbreak of children deemed unwanted. As the bonds of motherhood are tested, she and Ellis must decide how much they are willing to risk to mend a fractured family.
Inspired by an actual newspaper photograph that stunned the nation, Sold on a Monday is a powerful novel of love, redemption, and the unexpected paths that bring us home.

My thoughts...

From the moment I learned of this book I knew I needed to find out more.  I have eagerly anticipated it’s release for the past few months and have been researching the true (initial) story that lead the author to write this novel.  Heartbreak, compassion, and empathy are just a few of the initial feelings I dealt with.  The photo from 1948, on which the story is based, is pictured to the left.  (I cannot even imagine a mother ever being in circumstances so desolate that someone would offer their children for sale.  Truly, in today's society we have not seen hard times such as these)   Some people have said the photo was staged, others tell a different story.  An easy google search will allow you hours of reading so that you can form an opinion of your own.

McMorris did an excellent job in researching the facts, and shares some of what she found at the end of the novel.  The story is well written, and most of the characters are easy to like and were well developed.  But it's the story that kept drawing me in.  Quickly, page after page, I would read to see if and when I would find out what happened to the children.  It's not the only story line involved, but it was the one that was nearest and dearest to my heart and that I needed to find the answer to.  And I'll tell you this...you will not be disappointed in the end.  Questions are answered and no stone is left unturned.  I give this book 5 stars and HIGHLY recommend it!
