Shadows
of the Past,
book 1 of the Logan Point Series, takes place in Logan Point,
Mississippi. Psychology professor Taylor Martin, also a criminal
profiler, is one of the best in her field. Solving crimes comes easy
to her, but there is one that she has never been able to figure
out...whatever happened in the disappearance of her father twenty
years ago. She was so young at the time he went missing, but slowly
the memories are starting to return.
Nick
Sinclair is a bit of a mystery and seems to have some secrets of his
own. He's been searching for his long lost brother, and the path
just happens to lead him to Taylor. Little does he know, Taylor has
been dealing with a stalker who has lately started stepping up his
game, and her prime suspect just happens to be his brother, one of
her former students.
Suspense
and mystery abound throughout this novel, but not the
hide-behind-your-fingers scarey type! I am a big fan of Henderson
and Collins, and in my opinion, Patricia Bradley could be ranked
right up there beside these famous authors!
I
loved the character development throughout the story, Taylor and Nick
became so very real to me. Neither totally open with their
background history in the beginning, gradually bits and pieces are
shared along the way, shedding light on some answers the reader may
have been looking for. Not only does Bradley give this novel 2
strong leading characters, she follows them up with an abundance of
supporting characters as well!
The
pace of the book was right on track...not too slow, and not too fast.
I loved being able to read each page at just the right speed, never
feeling like I needed to skip ahead and skim over some parts to get
back to the “good stuff”. Bradley did such an excellent job in
the telling of each and every plot-line, I wanted to make sure I was
fully aware of what was happening in them all, not just the main one.
There were quite a few plot-lines in Taylor's family alone!
In
the beginning, I had my suspicions about who Taylor's stalker may be.
Once or twice I may have started leaning toward a different
character, but in the end I would like to say, “I knew it all
along.” But unfortunately, I cannot! And isn't that a sign of a
great author, one that is able to keep you guessing the entire time?
I
enjoyed this 1st
of the series so much, I have been suggesting it to people all week!
I cannot wait to see what happens next in book 2, A
Promise to Protect,
coming in Fall 2014!
