Nurse Kate Callison has always been on
the move, never one to stick in the same place or job for longer than
she has to. It could be because of the secrets she tries so hard to
hide...never letting anyone close to her, including her own father.
She soon finds herself stepping in as the interim director at Austin
Grace Hospital, a hospital that has seen it's own share of trouble
and has secrets all it's own! The previous ER director is missing, a
recent crime has left the hospital taped in yellow, and the media is
swarming, pressing in for the latest scoop! What's a girl to do?
Wes Tanner, a Search and Rescue team
member, is used to playing the hero. Often called in to help in
missing person cases or daring rescues, he is still not all that
comfortable around the new ER director. K-9 search, water rescue,
even horse mounted searches, he's done it all. So why is he left
feeling so unsure when he is around Kate?
Things around the ER are just starting
to settle down when an all new case threatens to change everything.
Will Kate stay and fight for what might be to come, or will she cut
all ties and do what she does best and run? With a few of his own
skeletons hiding in the closet, can Wes help Kate deal with her past?
Can they work through their differences to finally find that happy
ending they are both searching for?
While I am not a newcomer to Calvert's
books, it has been a while since I have read any of her novels. After
I finished reading the Rescue Team,
I did a little brushing up on my facts about this author. I was not
surprised to find out Candace Calvert is an ER nurse, having
made the decision to go into the medical field after suffering a
broken neck in an equestrian accident. Often called the author of
"medical hope opera," it would seem only natural that she
gets her medical knowledge and facts from first hand experience!
Medical expertise aside, Calvert does
an excellent job in developing the characters, drawing the reader in
as they come to know each and every front runner of this story.
While the main characters do get more page time, there is enough
background and even current info given about the rest of the “cast”so
you aren't left wondering about their lives and their stories.
Page after page you can be guaranteed
you will be reading a top rate novel, one that has been carefully
researched and edited, to bring you the kind of Christian Fiction
story you can read on those short summer nights! The storyline
itself leaves you wanting for nothing! It's another one of those
great reads you won't be able to put down, your housework will just
have to wait until you have read the final page! And for that very
reason, I give this book 5 top notch stars, and recommend it's
reading to every Christian Fiction Romance lit lover out there!
