If
you're a cookbook lover like I am, you'll want to make sure to add
this one to your collection! Simply
Delicious Amish Cooking
is chalked full of wonderful family friendly recipes, often
reminiscent of days gone past! While some may question the Amish
lifestyle and the choices they make, there is one thing that they are
known and loved for, and that's their way of cooking! Full of
wonderful pictures of the Amish and of the recipes (both colored and
black and white), you may just want to pick up a copy to browse
through the collection of stories that are included!
One
of the main issues I had with this cookbook while reviewing it was
that there were too many delicious sounding recipes, and not enough
meals in the day to make them all! From sunup to sundown, you are
sure to find something to fit any occasion! Some highlights for me?
Fried Chicken, Grilled Lime Fish Fillets, and of course, pies galore!
Each and every recipe includes easy to prepare instructions, with
common everyday ingredients. Preparing a meal for two? Not a
problem! Serving an army? That's definitely doable also! After
all, have you every heard of a barn raising or an Amish wedding?
They definitely know how to feed a crowd!
Sherry
Gore is a very busy woman living in an Amish village in southern
Florida. Pinecraft/Sarasota, is not too far from the beautiful
beaches of Siesta Key (this reviewers favorite place to vacation!).
She has been featured recently on The Today Show, writes for the
Amish newspaper (The
Budget),
and is the editor-in-chief of the magazine, Cooking
& Such. That's
not even listing all her family/community contributions that she
makes!
Cooking
& Such is
an Amish and Mennonite cooking magazine that is produced quarterly.
Like this cookbook, it features wonderful recipes with stunning
photos! It also includes many different stories and tidbits/facts
from Amish around the country. If you're looking for a taste of the
simpler way of life, you'll want to make sure to get your hands on a
copy of this magazine! And let me tell you, if my library's
circulation is of any evidence, you may just catch your friends
wanting to borrow your most recent issue!
